Kesseböhmer Employee Aids Youth Job Training

WILMINGTON, NC — Kids Making It (KMI), a Wilmington, NC-based non-profit training program for at-risk youth, is being assisted in its efforts to combat the kitchen/bath industry’s skilled labor shortage by Morgan Chiarelly, events manager for Kesseböhmer USA.

KMI hosts skilled labor classes for carpentry, electric and HVAC trades for youths aged 16+. The goal of the skilled trade academy is to combat the lack of available skilled laborers in today’s kitchen and bath market, while working to provide relevant careers by partnering with area professionals and contractors, according to the organization. Students also receive one-on-one guidance to secure entry-level positions on job sites, apprenticeships with area contractors, and pathways for continuing education programs at Cape Fear Community College. Kesseböhmer USA, a major supplier of kitchen and bath storage products, is headquartered in Wilmington.

Support for Kids Making It comes from grants, fundraisers and donations. Additionally, the program seeks long-term partnerships from companies looking to fill open positions within their respective trades, as well as professional mentors for KMI participants.

“The young individuals in the program have tremendous potential, skill and dedication,” Chiarelly said. “With a little bit of guidance, they and their peers could help bridge the (labor) gap in our industry.”
