Spanish Tile Suppliers Unveil ‘Ecolabel’

The Spanish tile industry has developed a sector-specific ecological label aimed at serving as a promotional tool in the area of sustainability, according to ASCER, the trade association representing Spanish ceramic tile and flooring manufacturers.

ASCER announced that about 40 Spanish tile suppliers have incorporated an Environmental Product Declaration (DAP), an internationally distinctive eco-labeling system that defines the environmental impact of ceramic tile products. Italy, North America and Germany also have sectorial DAPs.

“In addition to the sectorial DAP, ASCER has continued to promote the development of individual DAPs by manufacturing companies, because it’s considered that this environmental communication tool is one of the most appropriate for transmitting the environmental impacts of the products used in public and private structures,” the Spain-based organization said.
The project is one of multiple initiatives that the ceramic tile sector is involved in to assure product sustainability, ASCER said.
