BEFORE
The owner of this Mid-Century Eugene Wasserman home bought the Sheboygan, WI property because it reminded her of her childhood home, and because of its beautiful Lake Michigan view. Unfortunately, the kitchen, which had been walled off from the rest of the living space by a previous owner’s renovation efforts, was dark and dated and left a lot to be desired. There was very little storage and workspace, and the lake view was seriously limited.

Brian William Nelson of Timber Innovations was tasked with bringing the kitchen into the 21st century while honoring the home’s Mid-Century design aesthetic. Removing the poorly suited walls that separated the kitchen from the living space allowed the space to breathe and opened up the view to the outdoors. A new wall of floor-to-ceiling glass doors, with a new support beam added above to reinforce the roof joists, showcases the natural beauty of the property. Appliances were relocated to the back wall of the kitchen and an oversized island was incorporated in order to provide ample workspace (and a lovely view of the outdoors for the cook). Cabinets made of Australian teak, artistic light fixtures and granite countertops combine to create a period-appropriate yet modern space.
