LOS ANGELES – On February 11, Boffi Los Angeles unveiled its newly updated Robertson outpost with an event celebrating design. Maha Kutay, co-director of Zaha Hadid Design, was on hand for the cocktail event, which honored the architectural language of the late Zaha Hadid with a presentation of the Cove Kitchen within the restyled showroom. Alongside Maha Kutay, Boffi’s U.S. Director, Martin Jakobsson presented the brand’s latest partnership with ADL by unveiling the new enclosures within the showroom. Mallery Roberts Morgan, Los Angeles-based designer and writer, moderated a panel between Kutay and Jakobsson that explored the relationship and synergy between the two illustrious brands. The event served as a nod to the heritage, craftsmanship and artistic qualities of the featured designs, appropriately timed to kick off the city’s second Frieze.
The updated showroom includes the addition of ADL enclosures throughout both floors, breaking the once open concept space into units with notably different rooms. Despite the towering glass partitions, there will still remain a consistent stylistic dialogue between the now divided compartments, the company notes.
The showroom’s two floors have been transformed to reflect a setting that offers the natural transitions one might encounter passing through a residential home. In addition to the new ADL fixtures, the space features the brand’s latest designs from the 2019 Salone Del Mobile, including the R.I.G. bathroom system, Poet Lamp and a number of highly styled armchairs.
To complement the contemporary Italian offerings, Zaha Hadid’s Cove Kitchen, with its clean lines and sinuous curves, is the showpiece of the ground level kitchen. Marrying Hadid’s design and functionality with Boffi’s craftsmanship, the kitchen island embodies the fluid lines of Hadid’s signature architectural language. The island is notably Hadid’s final design for Boffi before her passing.
The evolutionary lineage of the Cove kitchen finds its roots in a re-visitation of the studio’s repertoire of projects, including the formal composition of Rome’s MAXXI Museum of Art and Baku’s cultural center, as well as the innovations explored within the practice’s experimental works that investigate materiality and structure, the company states.
Available in two sizes and various finishes/materials, the kitchen can be customized in a variety of materials including hand-finished natural stone, selected wood and Corian, and can be wholly tailored to the client’s precise specification and requirements.
